If you love diving and are passionate about teaching others to dive then becoming a PADI Instructor is the first step in one of the most rewarding careers in the world.
If you want to be a leader in diver education it takes more than passion and enthusiasm to be successful, it takes hard work and professional training.
The Kiwidiver Instructor Internship is the most effective way to gain the knowledge and experience of working in the diving industry while being mentored by top professionals.
Learning the Theory and passing the exams are just one aspect of becoming a Scuba Instructor. If you really want a future as a professional diving educator then the Kiwidiver Internship is a good way to gain the hands on experience and the highest level of training.
The internship program includes the Pre-IDC, Tec explorer day, full IDC and even our MSDT program and then the fun starts with getting in the water and teaching the courses under supervision of some of the most qualified scuba instructors around. Your mentors will all the tricks they have learnt in thousands of dives teaching thousands of students.
You will work both in our dive center in the busy Phuket and in our partner center on a laid back tropical island experiencing both sides of the business. You will gain the certifications to activate your MSDT qualification and gain the extra dives in each of the instructor specialties you have chosen.
During your internship you will be diving a lot but you will also be learning a lot of skills required to get ahead in this business. There are many things that are not taught as part of the Instructor course that dive centers need from their instructors and this is where an internship puts you miles ahead when you are seeking employment. Things like running a compressor, filling tanks, making nitrox, compressor maintenance, filter changes, guiding customers on unfamiliar dive sites, managing technical divers, running a dive shop, retail sales, shop merchandising, stock control, servicing equipment and Business of diving program.
We do not use our Instructor interns as free labor like many dive centers do, where you work in the dive shop and do the minimum number of dives or doing nothing but DSD's.
The purpose of your internship is to learn as much as possible about the job of a diving professional with hands on experience working alongside dive professionals.
So with Kiwidiver you will be working alongside, assisting and teaching under the supervision of experienced Instructors and instructor trainers mastering the art of teaching.
Kiwidiver.com like many dive centers are always looking for well trained staff. While we are not promising you a job at the end of our internship we are training you up with everything we and other dive centers are looking for in an instructor. But like with all employers / employees there always needs to be a comfortable fit personality wise.
As you draw near to the end of your internship we hold an employment workshop where we discuss many options. There may be an offer of fulltime or freelance employment by either us or our partner center or there may be an additional training session on starting up as an independent contractor freelancing for multiple dive centers. A lot will depend on what direction you choose to go once you have the experience to know what type of dive center you want to work in.
Places on our internship program are limited and there may be a waiting period to get on one. The Internship program is customized for each individual to ensure you get the most out of the program and achieve your goals.
If you would like more information or to discuss options with our training staff please contact us for an interview.
